compress drive question

  daisy2bell 08:56 31 Aug 2005

Was checking the available space on my C drive, and there is a option of

" Compress drive to save disk space"

Are there any pitfalls to doing this, or is it straightforward. Would I have any potentional problems.

On modern compuers, like partitioning, this is a total waste of time. You would be much better qand safer to buy an external HD or a memory stick (£50ish) and use one to backup...they will save your life one day.

XP 'usually' runs on NTFS filing system. You cannot compress a drive using this. It may give the option, but will fail to carry out the operation.

However, if it is FAT32, the operation may well succeed. The result would be to slow down the computer, and is not recommended.
