I would like to make a complete copy of my hard drive contents.
Is the best way to do this to use an external usb hard drive.
If I copy everything onto an external drive then experience a hdd failure will I be able to copy all my files and current windows installation onto a new hard drive and use everything as normal ?
Could someone point me in the right direction as how to do this and what software programme to use to copy all my current files and settings onto a usb hard drive
The hard drive in my pc now is 250gb with 188gb free space.
I'm using windows xp
I have a programme called 'acronis true image 8' which was free on a magazine cover disc.
Thanks for any help and guidance : ))

You cannot just copy everything to an external drive it will not work.

You need specialist software to backup the operating system and the best is Acronis True Image.
