Complete Norton Product Removal - HELP!

  shazza65 17:33 04 Jul 2004

After researching the web and requesting help on the forum, I have finally taken the plunge and tried to remove Norton Firewall and SystemWorks 2003 from my computer.

Instead, thanks to help on the forum, I have installed ZoneAlarm's FREE firewall and AVG's FREE antivirus on my computer. Also I installed CCleaner.

My problem: I still have the following Symantec files left on my computer which I cannot remove (I found this out when I ran a search on the word Symantec);

1. Symantec - located in C:\Program Files
2. Symantec Shared - located in C:\Program Files\Common Files
3. Symantec Antivirus Scanner - located in C:\Windows\Downloaded Programme Files
4. Symantec RuFSI Registry Information Class - located in same as 3 above

I uninstalled all the Symantec products via the Install/Remove Programme function in Control Panel.

Your help would be appreciated.

Visited the Symantec Site, got confused, bit of a novice here!

Found some other files:

1. Norton SystemWorks - located in C:\Program Files
2. Norton CleanSweep - located in C:\Program Files\Norton Systemworks

Tried your link, had new screen open up with the following header:

HTTP 500 Microsoft Internet Server Error - Microsoft Internet Explorer

Page could not be displayed.

What does that mean?

Sorry, I'll try again click here

Have read your link which says that the SYMClean does not work on SystemWorks 2003, what do I do?

It says I should carry out a manual uninstallation to more fully uninstall NSW.

How do I do this as I have already gone through Windows Uninstall Programme thingy in Control Panel?

Sorry to be so thick!

I didn't read the document properly. I'll have another look but as flying grouse said your best bet is to go to click here and click on Support.

Right, I followed the links, ran the little registry programme, deleted all files with Symantec and Norton and seem to have 1 final problem.

On boot-up I receive the following error:

16 bit Windows Subsystem

C:\PROGRA~\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL on installable Virtual Device Drive Failed DLL initialization. Chose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I've run a search on S32EVNT1 and found an application left, should I delete this?

Before you do this, Start, Run, type in

and click OK.

Is it listed on the Startup tab? If so, untick it, click OK and restart. Do you still get the message?
