If I put a commercial dvd into my laptop (eg a film) then my laptop just freezes completely requiring a restart. I have win xp sp1 1gb ram 80gb hdd dvd rw. tried several dvd players and even dvd shrink. nothing works it. Any ideas please?

what laptop do you have? Has it always run "commercial DVD's" before?

by "tried several dvd players" I guess you mean DVD software players? Are all these installed on your machine?

Possibly a killer question do you own a Sony laptop?

its a novatech laptop and never played commercial dvds. i think the problem may be commercial security software included on the dvd itself. i have a choice of softwares

I have solved the issue, well almost, its a hardware fault unable to set region settings at all any attempt simply locks up the laptop. Gaurantee is valid thankfully.
