Com port prob on win98

  gcook 18:31 07 Mar 2003

Im having a problem with an internal modem on a laptop. Its installed on Com 3 and according to Device Manager has no conflicts. However when i do a diagnostic check on the modem windows says it cannot open port.

Ive tried removing the modem and the com ports and reinstalling them but to no avail. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Anyone know what this could be?

I don'tknow if it is relevant but I had a similar problem after installing the NOKIA PC-Suite, the programes grabbed the com port and wouldn't even let the Nokia modem software see it. Uninstalling the programe cured the problem and the Nokia modem could see my phone.

As an addition to my last post, Palm Hot sync manager can also prevent other drivers seeing it's Com port.
