CMOS is the settings held in the BIOS, It's a combination of small programs that make up the info you alter for the Computer

What motherboard and processor do you have?

what graphics card?

This info will tell us what settings you need

How old is the PC? perhaps the CMOS battery is dying an easy replacement.

Windows 98 Bought in 1998. BIOS AMI American Megatrends Inc.15/7/95; Motherboard Supermicro Inc. Intel 440BX/440GX Version Rev.1; Graphic card ASUS AGP-V7100DVI SDRAM V43.45A; (Nvidia Geforce2 MX/MX 400.)
Could be a battery because each time I switch off and go back on the next day, the time and date and USB setting goes and I have to reset.

Replace CMOS battery and retry.

Don't pay more than a couple of quid for the battery, try Boots, Supersaver etc.

  woodchip 21:48 20 Oct 2006

OK At that age battery is sure to need a replacment. tell him to remove the mains plug when he replaces the battery. plus to double check the way the battery goes in
