Hi Guys, I was hopeing someone could share some light into my son"s desktop he has a pentium 3 4ghz windows xp. He would be on his computer browsing the net and he would hear a click in the machine (the tower itself) and the screen would freeze. Its an intermitten thing but keeps happening more frequently and sometimes even during boot up. Appreciate if anyone cld share some info on this. Thanks.

Could be any number of things - component starting to fail, software snag or overheating. When was it last cleaned?

If you Google this problem the most prominent answer is that the hard drive is starting to fail and that you should back up your data as quickly as possible and then start some hard drive testing,

A secondary answer is that it could be the power settings that you are turning the hard drive off after a short period of inactivity in which case you should check the settings via Control Panel/Power Options.

Hard Drive Problem, tell him to do a disc scan using Disc Scanner. Right click on the C:\ Drive then Properties\Tools\Disc Scanner and tick the box to fix all faults. Do a full scan

Most probably it could be the hardware problem.. go for a technician or at your own check all the parts are properly connected.
