Clearing Firefox recently visited sites

I ran CCleaner tonight and 'Clear Private Data' but notice that most recently visited sites are still showing when I press the little down arrow to the right.

How do I get this to clear as well please?

simply highlight and press the delete key. I would have though that this would have been included as a 'clear private data' task though.

Tools / Clear Private Data
Also go to Tools /Options / Privacy /Private Data /Settings / and set what you want clearing

CCleaner marks it for deletion but it won't get delete until you reboot.

Dont use it yet, so have changed browser.urlbar.maxRichResults via about:config to 0 for now.

just run CCleaner and rebooted but they're still there.

It doesn't actually delete the data tho'. If you restore to the default value (say) of 12 they all return so they must be on your PC somewhere.

It just reverts back as tho you hadn't done anything.

Have you tried Clear Browsing History in FF from Tools>Options>Privacy Tab>Privacy data>Settings Button?

On the same menu if you configure Keep My History for 0 days, this should clear any browsing history.
