Therewas a letter from someone in this months mag about, after XP SP2 had been installed his windows folder was huge and asking what he could and couldn't delete. There was quite a comprehensive answer. Unfortunately I left my magazine in my hotel on holiday. Could somebody who has the mag please post the PC Advisore response please. Thanks in anticipation
Do you mean the one in the sept issue, about removing the update uninstall files.
In windows folder there may be a set of file starting with $ these arae ininstall points createedwhen updates have been installed . If your PC is workiing correctly since the updte was installe you can delete all of these.
then all files starting with $ check date could always leave the most recent for a while longeralso empty your prefetch folder as that can grow quite big while you're at it
"Tidying up after installing SP2" click here
Useful - thank you.
