Clean Installing XP Home

Advice on this please:

I am looking for an answer to an old question/problem.

XP Home
Mobo MSI 6830 KT266RU (Via chipset) AMD 1900+
BOIS boot setting
1st boot floppy
2nd boot IDE 0
3rd boot CDROM

when I start computer I get the message:
Searching for boot records from floppy ….. failed.

However everything boots fine after that so not a problem, but just want to know if this is normal or did I do something wrong when I installed Windows.
This is just a learning point for me but will be grateful for any pointers

Just change your first boot to ide0 and you should never get the message again.

Thank you for that, sorry for not saying in my thread but I am aware of that but just wondered if I had done something wrong. It was just bugging me. And am always keen to learn.

I just wondered if this is a normal boot up message with flopy as first boot device.

Thank you all thet post.

will tick box soon.
At lease Im at the top for a "short" time again.

I have never had that message when booting with the floppy drive set as first booting device. Strange one that...

It better to set the first boot device as your HDD as it speeds up the required boot time sligthly

When you loaded X\P what was your boot sequence.

If it was a\cdrom\ide0 then this may be the problem. I do not know why but just trying some lateral thinking, lying down at the moment. lol

Usually to load X\P most would pick cdrom as first boot, did you?

But I used boot menu (F1 supported by my BOIS) to boot from CD.
Its not really important, I just thought that I could use this opertunity to learn, as you are never too old for that.

your theory sounds logical.

Thank you for your help

Thank you all that replied.
I'm gonna call it a day on this. As its not a big issue, and believe that it was probably caused by BOIS boot sequence durind set up
Thanks again
