Choosing a Wireless Modem

  dompallot 21:54 11 Dec 2007

I am getting increasingly confused by what speed wireless modem I need.

My max download speed is 2mbps
I thought the 54mbps 'G' would be fast enoguh.

But the Belkin box I picked up in the shop said if I wanted to stream video I would need to get 'N1' wich is 300mbps.

If my download speed is only 2mbps why would I need 300?!?!

Please help

You wouldn't.

Consider what users typically get out of a standard 802.11g connection and you will see what I mean.

I'm more than happy with the 54meg router that totally outstrips my 4meg connection speed, the only time that it might be worth getting the faster one is if you play a lot of games across your network or do a lot of large file swapping across your network
