chkdsk won't run

chkdsk, with or without the /f parameter, will no longer run. My os is XP Home, virus-free, I've done all the usual commands and got confirmation that it will run next time the computer starts up, but nothing happens, it just loads Windows each time. Any suggestions?

Tried booting in Safe mode and running it?

Have you got Version 5 of Zone Alarm installed, if so remove it & replace with version 4.5.
There is a problem with Version 5

Haven't yet tried in Safe Mode, but yes Stylehurst, I do have ZoneAlarm 5 installed - recently upgraded from v.4.5. If that is the problem, it's annoying, cos I assume the later version is more effective. Does the problem apply to ZA in the free version, as well as Pro?

Saw all those people with same problem in the ZA forum - tks for link, Thetford Brian - and that's definitely the cause. Will uninstal v.5 and go back to 4.5.
