CHKDSK taking 24 hours+

I got an error message "corrupt file AWC.EXE - please run checkdisk" or similar.
Checkdisk has now been running for over 24 hours, and is at stage 4 of 5 - verifying file data - 57 per cent complete. It was at 37% some 2 hours ago, so is still making progress. Is this normal?

Thats 10 bit defrag. Are you using that or Windows defrag.

AWC.EXE is part of The Ultimate Troubleshooter by IOBIT, so if you have it installed, uninstall it.

Obvious you are using the windows defrag. If you have 10 bit defrag downloaded why did you not use that.Windows Defrag should only take about 1 and a half hours at the most.

I suspect Iobit may be the culprit. I'll wait until chkdsk has finished, then uninstall anything Iobit. Will let you know how it goes.
Buteman - is this a defrag I'm running?

  birdface 23:15 05 Feb 2009

Don't know what I was thinking about,Obviously chkdsk. But it should take no more than 1.5 hours.

Still running. I'll let you know how it pans out tomorrow night.
G'nite all.
