CHKDSK query

WinXP SP2.
I have a message ' ....file is corrupt....Run chkdsk facility'. When I run it, it says 'WARNING. F Parameter not specified.Running chkdsk in read only mode.'
It says it is running through 3 stages and it takes about 2 minutes.
I have run it 4 times in quick succession and each time it corrects/deletes about 4 entries. Each time they are different, but at 100% of stage 2 of 3 it exits.
Three questions;
1. What does the warning mean and how, if necessary, do I change it.
2. Why does it exit at end of stage 2 and what should stage 3 be?
3. Why doesn't it correct all errors on the first run?
Last time I used the facility (ages ago!) I recall it running OK.
Thought I would ask to-day as we all might be fuzzy headed to-morrow!
Happy New Year.

IIRC the third stage is Security Verifiers.

After the third stage, CHDSK usually takes quite a little while longer to complete its operation - keep an eye on the HDD case light.

You can arrange, as you are probably aware, from the hard drive's Properties to run a CHDSK check by agreeing to a reboot.

Cheers--I was aware in the past, but had forgotten where to access it.
Thanks.

All checked. Thanks. Although had a bit of a scare! Selected CHKDSK to start on boot up. Re-started, and each of four times it got to the CHKDSK screen, after about a second it persisted in re-booting. Eventually I decided to hit any key within that second and it ran OK. Then held my breath until it restarted successfully.
