I cannot run disk defrag or chkdsk.

I need to download a free version of chkdsk, but all I get after searches are registry cleaners.

win xp.

What error message do you get?

  VoG II 00:11 19 Apr 2009

SAtart, Run type

sfc /scannow

Ind=sert Windows CD if prompted.

When I run defrag it says chkdsk is scheduled to run. run chkdsk /f

Disk cleanup freezes when checking files.

I have no windows disc.

If chkdsk is scheduled to run then it will run when you first boot up. So reboot the pc and let it run then you will be able to defrag.

Don't forget to disable any screensavers and stop any programs that run in background etc before you defrag.

Post back if with any problem doing it

CHKDSK may appear to `freeze` around the stage 4 point; it is still working but takes quite some time to complete - the bigger the drive and more data the longer it takes.
