Am having a problem running this - "Type of file is NTFS - cannot open volume for direct access - windows has finished checking files" etc. An archive search on this site gives a lot of info including "work arounds" and Microsoft recognising this as a problem, but does not explain why I can't run Check Disk now, when I've been running it every month for 18 months with no problems. Running XP Home SP1.
Thanks Vog - still dos'nt tell me why its been OK up till now. Will now wait until I can summon up the courage to go the SP2 route. Its rather like penguins waiting to see if the tiger shark gets the first few in before deciding to follow <G>
Ever since I posted the above, Chkdsk has reported the "cannot open" message every time I start up my 'pooter. I downloaded Zone Alarm 51-011 as an upgrade tonight. On re-start Chkdsk started, and ran completely through. No probs reported. Is this an "happenchance" update?!
Meanwhile PCA SP2 cover mount sits waiting on my desk. PC running fine, NAV up to date, and the latest version of a firewall that the mag says I should still have installed after SP2. I just cannot psych myself up to do it yet <G>
