Can someone please advise me how to get "Check Disc" so that I can run it for faulty files. The arcgive articles do not seem to help in this Thanks in advance Carper
open my computerright click on the drive in questionselect propertieschoose tools
That will only check the hard drive for bad sections. For faulty files, you need System File Checker:Start, Run, 'sfc /scannow', OK.If W98, it's just 'sfc'.
type chkdsk in run box
doe,s sfc /scannow show a report box?,i,v often used it but it seems to scan then disappear.i supppose no report means no problem..but have often wondered.
Sadly, no it often doesn't report. This means either it didn't find anything amiss, or what it found it fixed.
Thanks all. that answers my question
I was a bit premature in ticking this posting as resolved. When I go into sfc/scannow I get cannot find file. Is something missing. sorry to have to come back Graham.
