I am building a new PC but trying to keep my budget to what i can make with my old stuff on Ebay.
I have sold my old stuff (Thank god for PC4000 memory £50 a GB)
I have bought
AMD X2 4200 CPU
Foxconn 6150M2MA-KRS2H motherboard
ATI 2600 pro 512mb GPU
Geil black dragon 2GB Ram
TX2 Heatsink and fan

I am just wondering if this would make a decent PC and would there be many problems with just upgrading my kit without doing anything with my existing windows install on IDE HDD?
Thanks

there have been problems in the past with using a previous installation of xp on a computer with a new motherboard....

what I have done in the past is to put the hdd in and let it run. If it objects put in the windows cd and repair the installation. If it runs ok without the cd after you have rebooted a couple of times all should be adjusted. You should run the new mobos cd.

moomoo2,

remember if it is an OEM copy of XP you have, M'soft will not verify it.

With my one I booted into Safe Mode without a problem and from there uninstalled the drivers I originally installed from the old motherboard. I then booted up and inserted the new motherboard cd and installed as normal.

I did have to activate my windows xp copy again, but it worked no problem - wasnt expecting it to!
