Well! What an afternoon I've had! You know what it's like, although you **think** you've gone down every feasible avenue to try and fix something, you still in the back of your mind wonder what else it could be.
I have 3 ddr ram sticks. 2 originals - 2 of 256, and the 1 of 512 I cannibalised from my Son's PC.
I moved them around in their seatings, no joy. I removed sons 512: no joy. I replaced and removed original 2 x 256. XP INSTALLED WITH ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS!!! No error messages, 'cannot instal blah blah file' etc.
In fact, I'm typing this on the PC!
I think I'm gonna give it a rest in a minute, have a good ol' G & T and relax for what's left of Sunday.
I keep tabs of what it's doing over the next week and then just go ahead and purchase another 512 (or more) ram.
Guys, thank you all SO MUCH for your time and advice on this. I'm sooo excited it's working again!
was a model of how collaborative working in an online forum should be. You appeared to remain cheerful, even when things were obviously not working out, and you must have felt like throwing the computer throug the nearest window.
I'm delighted that all is well - congratulations are due to you and your team of advisors, you all deserve a G&T after that saga.
When you sober up, could you tick the other thread as resolved?
