Changing from a usb modem to a router question

Hi,

at present I am using a Speedtouch 330 usb modem on my XP laptop (ISP is Orange). I am hoping to get a new laptop soon running Windows 7, as there are some conflicting opinions about the ST330 working with Windows 7 I am going to get a wireless router, possibly a Netgear DG834GT or the like.

My question is, will it 'just work' if I just unplug my phone line from the ST330 and plug it into the new router. I may want to connect using an ethernet cable on my XP laptop too so I presume I'll need to run the set up disc.

Regards, Chris.

Netgear modem/routers normally detect most of the settings required by using the setup wizard. Just enter password and user name for your account at the prompt.

No you have to go into Setup Page of the Router then put your ISP and User Name and Password in for you to use it. If you want to use it Wireless first get it to connect using the supplied Ethernet Cable, after you can enable Wireless in the Router and Setup The Encryption Do not use WEP as its no very secure
