changing drive for CDs

I have an older Gateway laptop with Windows 98 SE which has a read only CD drive. Would it be possible to remove this drive and install a DVD re-write drive?

Yup.

Should not be a problem. However you will need some burning software, as Win98 doesn't have any.

Look around for a drive bundled with some software - preferably Nero. Or for a drive from the same place that you can also get Nero - get the OEM version for £4 ish.
