changing battery on motherboard

  oseven 16:45 19 Mar 2004

The clock on my pc does not keep the time correctly.I believe the battery needs changing on the motherboard but this can be a hazardous thing for a relative beginner to undertake.
Apparrently it can cause problems with the BIOS.
Can anyone advise on this subject re method of changing battery and potential pitfalls.
Thanks in advance.

What will happen, is you will loose certain settings and have to reset them in the BIOS.

The fairly obvious is time and date, but not so obvious, may be your processor settings and perhaps one or two others.

If you have a motherboard manual supplied with the computer, all the default settings should be listed in the manual.
