Changed Icons

  altens 16:23 01 Jan 2011

My PC is running Windows 7 Home Premium.
The Icons on my desktop now have a small red circle on them with a exclamation mark in the middle
They were not there the last time I booted up.
Any ideas?

Google the problem. It may be an infection. If I were you I would run a scan with Superantispyware and Malawarebytes (both free) Hope you have them but both are free to download.

Do you use a backing-up service like Mozy? If so, it's indicating that the file could not be or was not backed-up. You are able to disable this feature in the options configuration.

Here is another link for W7. Do you have McAfee?

As John states, other software that have back-up capabilities also sometimes cause this to display. McAfee is reported to be capable of causing this. Again it can be turned off, but in McAfee's case I'd recommend getting something better!

I believe Norton also has some other similar function and can cause the issue.

I have McAfee Total Protection installed, this happened after I installed updates from McAfee

If not already solved (you didn't say), try rebuilding the icon cache - instructions at click here if required. G
