I am considering a new purchase and am not exactly sure of the difference between Celeron and Pentium.
I do not play games or use intensive graphics apps.
Could anyone please explain the difference in fairly simple terms?
Thanks in advance

If you are not playong games go for the cheaper option aka Celeron. You will not notice the difference.

While the new Celeron D is a vast improvement on its predecessors, if you're looking for a budget machine the AMD Sempron is also worth a look.

I would choose and AMD Sempron over a Celeron but if you are looking at particular intel machines (i.e. Dell) the Celeron will be sufficient for what you need.

You should also get 512Mb or Ram. It's often much cheaper to upgrade this yourself from a manufacturer such as Crucial rather thay from the original manufacturer.

Agree with Aspman about upgrading ram yourself but check that you will have free slots to fit the new ram into unless you are replacing the ram completely.
