My home PC recently crashed, I ran the restore CD but had problems installing software & drivers afterwards, I took it to a local PC repairer who installed drivers and some software but I still cant install software via the CDRW drive. Every time I try and install anything I get messages to say some of the files are missing or the such like, but the same discs install o.k on other PC,s does this sound like a fault with my CDRW instelf or the driver? My PC says both are O.K. I am able to surf O.K and I can download photos from my camera via USB and genrally the PC seems fine except for this download problem and I thought I would try and get some expert advise here before spending money on new kit or on another trip to the rapairer.

Yes it sounds as if your drive is struggling to read the CDs

If the Cds are ok on other machine then the only culprit should be the drive itself.

To change a CD/DVD drive is easy, 4 screws and two cables, no drivers as windows will sort them itself.
A new drive DVD RW will only cost approx £20 click here
