CD/DVD causes continuous re-boot/Blue screen

My MESH computer/windows XP SP2 has a SONY DW-U14A DVD/RW. Just lately whenever I put in a blank disc or partially full CD RW as soon as autoplay starts I get a very quick blue screen (too fast to read) followed by continuous re-boots until I remove the disc. If I disable autoplay using the shift key I can read disc contents with explorer fine, and have even reformatted discs using Instant CD.

I have removed/reinstalled the drive, no effect. I realise I could probably just leave autoplay disabled, but I do find it useful and in any case I can't leave a disc in during boot up or the whole thing starts again! Any help/suggestions gratefully received.

Have you got that drive set as your first boot device in the bios? Changing that would help.

Hi Kate,
No, it's third boot device and actually everything is fine until windows runs, which is why I thought it might be a driver problem, but I believe I have the latest one.
