I have made a copy of a audio CD which plays fine on my computer but not on my cd player, it plays the first track then go's silent, any ideas.

If it is a Commercial CD, it is probably Copyright protected.

Is it a CDRW or a CDR ?
CDRW have poor compatability with older equipment... they are much less reflective than CDR's

it is a cdr and as I have said it plays in my pc

You now need to try the disc in another player... there are a lot off "possible" reasons why it doesn't play.
PC's with their "combo" drives cope with most things, an older CD player may well not. The "amplitude" of the recorded information may be low or have other problems such as jitter etc...
Recordable media you burn yourself does not meet the same standard as a commercial disc but should be playable on "most" products.
