CD-R Problems

  Prewch 13:13 10 Nov 2006

Recently, I bought some own brand CD-R's from W H Smith which are labeled "High Performance and high speed 700MB/80Mins Up to 52X multispeed. Previously I have used both Logik and Packard Bell CD-r's marked 52X speed.

The problem is that the WHS CD-R's record OK but will not play back via my PC's CD drive (on which they were recorded) whereas both the Logik and Packard Bell CD-R's do. Thus the WHS CD's seem no good for data back-up. Is there any way round this problem apart from return the CD-R's to WHS for a refund?

Ta in advance for any ideas.

It certainly appears you drive does not like these disks and if that is the cause then the only option I can see is returning them.

Try them in another drive and see if they can be read - if they come up as blank or don't read then they haven't had anything written to them so are probably incompatible with your drive. Either way, take them back.
