CD-r or DVD-r drive?

I'm having trouble figuring out wat my laptop specifications are. i've run Lavalys and it came up with this HL-DT-ST RW/DVD_GCC-4244N (DVD:8x, CD:24x/24x/24x DVD-ROM/CD-RW), now does this mean i can write dvds or not? Am asking as when i ran a nero diagnostic it said it could read dvd-r/rw but not write them. Have microsoft xp and nero 6 if that is any help. Other related problem to this is that i have dvd shrink on my comp but it does not recognise nero to burn to.

You can read and write cds, you can read also read BUT not write to dvds.

Hmm try again,

You can read and write to cd's. You can also read DVD's BUT not write to them.

It's a combined CD-writer and DVD reader drive - so no, it won't write DVDs

Or in other words you have a dvd reader with a CD burner.
