I have two CDs created by 'Easy CD Creator '- DIRECT CD format which, alothough can be read by the programs 'Utility mode' and pronounced O.K., cannot be opened in the normal way. The title of the CD is read, but on clicking to open, my Windows 98SE freezes. The CD contains much treasured photos - can you help please?

You mention Direct CD format, which suggests to me that these are CD/RW disks and not CDRs.

If that is the case, CD/RWs can be used as if they are a very large floppy disk. But as CD/RWs are not very stable I would suggest you transfer them back to your hard disk (if you can) and then burn them to CDR.

What programme are you using to "open" them.

As pj123 says CDRW's and even CDR's can be very unstable and become unreadable over time. I find it pays to buy the best quality for those " much treasured photos"

You could try isobuster at click here

or badcopy pro at click here

I've used bad copy to recover pics from a corrupt cd but beware I can take several hours to recover your files.
