CD drive stops working

My PC is six year old (Pentium iii). Today my CD reader (32X, Creative) stop working and Windows XP (i.e. clicking computer icon)doesn't recognize it anymore. It is not there. (just drive "C" and Floppy drive "A").

When I use System tools to find out about this hardware (component)- clicking Problem devices, it identifies the Creative CD and gives error 41.

Could somebody tell me what is wrong? Does it mean that the Creative CD componet decided to pass away? and need to order a new one?

Thanks

Take care as this requires editing the registry.

thms:

Many thanks for the information. It is really good. All the problem seems to come after I was updating from AOL 8.0 to AOL 9.0. Something happen when I ws doing this and my CDROM didn't function after that event.

I will keep you informed of the results of working with the register (possible tomorrow).
