i have a compaq presario with windows xp installed, been trying to back up some stuff but keeps saying NO DISC IN DRIVEi can play audio in it but cant burn a disc, any ideas?
Some drives can be fussy about the disk in it,If you can try another make of disk.
What disc?XP will only write to CD not DVD you need third party software such as Nero.If CD then have you checked that :My computer right click drive -properties - recording tab - Enable CD recording on this drive is ticked?
was a cd ,and the enable box is ticked
make of disc:Maxell cd-R
Uninstall and reinstall from device manager. If will still read but won't write then sounds as i the read laser has gone.At approx £25 for new DVD rewriter not wort repairing.
I have same computer and had same problem.....took it into pc world for its yearly check and cleanup.....turned out the drive had developed a fault....they fixed it.....
i mentioned it in pc world ,they sed my comp wasnt covered as it was a software prob?its under guarantee till next yr
I agree with Fruit Bat /\0/\ that it sounds like a drive problem. In which case it's a hardware problem, and under warranty.I suugest yiou take the system back to them and simply say - "the drive is faulty, it won't write to a CD". Let them prove it isn't the drive.
