CD "Disk is not formatted"

Windows has decided that all my CD's are not formatted. Putting a CD into the drive results in a pop-up saying "Disk in drive F: is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?"

This happens with both the CD & DVD drives.

But... this is a dual-boot system and in the second installation the CD's are fine - ie same physical drives and disks.

Both installs are running Windows ME (yeah, I know ...). I've tried removing the device in Device Manager and rebooting but the problem persists.

Any ideas?

Ovbiously not a hardware problem. Deleting the drive from Drive Manager also not working implies that the problem lies with another damaged file. Don't know ME - does it have SFC? If so run SFC /scannow. If not, you may need to reinstall - over the top also not likely to work, but you can try it first.
