Well spotted, I'm sure that there are many people out there who would fall for that.
Unfortunately there are many people in this world with no scruples whatsoever.

I've had this very same pop-up while searching for dog medication on a veterinary website.

So beware it is not just the current/popular sites which can be the source.

Many people still tend to believe that you only get infected when visiting "dodgy" sites - but those days are long gone. Any reputable website can be hacked into and loaded with malicious pop ups.

It even affects the genuine antivirus websites - see here

Good old security tool its amazing how people fall for these fake Spyware/malware alerts !! i had to clear this off a PC yesterday it was a right pain it stopped you from accessing local Drives , and also running any .exe and you couldnt even run task manger or any system tools

had to boot into safe mode and clean it off
