Card Reader

On one of my desktops that I dual boot 98se and XP home, The card reader I put into a five and a quarter Drive bay only reads up to one Gig in 98 or XP any ideas why. If I try to use a 2Gig SD card it locks the computer, But if I leave the card in the Camera it is recognized by windows okay when plugged into usb socket

How is the card connected via the usb header on the motherboard?

To a PCI Combi card, all drivers loaded for it

How old is the reader woody? I have the same problem with a built in raeder in my 4yr old lappy but not with a much newer printer with reader or with my new lappy I have just got from my kids for Christmas, I can only think that it is because there was no such thing as a 2 gig SD card 4 yrs ago.
