Can't use my Debit Card to buy from

  pj123 17:02 21 Feb 2007

the Post Office.

I tried to register with the Post Office to buy postage online.

It was rejected because my Debit Card expires at the end of February.

I got:"Sorry, you cannot use a debit / credit card that is due to expire in the next month. Please enter a different card."

I thought my card was valid up to and including 28th February 2007.

I tried to use my new card valid from 03/07 but that also was not accepted.

I can still use my current card in most of the shops around here, so why not the Post Office?

That's because PO is naff

There should be no reason why you cannot use your card until the day it expires.

In fact if you tried to use the new card now in, for instance, a local shop it would not be accepted.

I would be enclined to ask your debit card provider the reason for this.

  pj123 18:13 21 Feb 2007

Pamy, I did exactly that. My bank says there is no reason why the card should not be accepted.

They don't know why the Post Office has not accepted it.

They told me to get in touch with the Post Office and ask them why?

I tried that but so far no response.

Well soon you may be charged £35 to have a card.

  pj123 18:36 21 Feb 2007

Pamy, what does that mean? Do you know something we don't?

  Pamy 18:39 21 Feb 2007

On the TV news tonight, TSB could charge £35 for you to have a credit card

  Meshuga 20:08 21 Feb 2007

Pamy, the charge will be for a Credit card, this query is about a Debit card. Different thing.

  woodchip 20:17 21 Feb 2007

Could add, Free banking looks like it may be near the end. That would make it as you have to pay for using debit Card also

  Stuartli 20:28 21 Feb 2007

This news was in today's morning papers.

Frankly if LloydsTSB decides to charge me a £35 annual fee for my TrustCard, which I've had for 22 years, then it will be informed exactly what it can do with such card.

Same with the TSB current account and another current account with the Halifax if no more free banking.
