cant start XP

whenever i try to start my sons computer i get the message WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is corrupt needs to be repaired
i have tried to repair it with the windows recovery console but i have no idea what i am doing any advice would be appreciated thanks in advance

It means the registry is damaged. There's only one thing to try before a repair / reinstall of Windows, resetting all your programs (but not losing any documents if you only use Repair). Do you have a floppy drive on the PC? Do you know if the disk is formatted using NTFS?

Do you have the recovery console installed? Do you have a Windows XP CD?

It's a bit convuluted but it does work.......click here or you could do a repair install which is probably easier, assuming that you have the XP disc.
