Cant share files or printer-help!!!

Hi, im trying to set up a small office network and am hvaing problems! I have a desktop and a laptop, both running on xp professional. I have managed to share the internet connection between the two through a Netgear ethernet hub. I have allowed the laptop's ip address on the desktop in Norton but still cant see any files i have to want to share, even after going into the 'properties' tab etc and enabling sharing.

Any ideas? Would ideally like to set up a shared drive between the 2 computers.

any help appreciated!!

First thought - In Windows Explorer go Tools>Folder Options>View Tab and under the Advanced Settings scroll down to the last item "Enable simple file sharing (Recommended) It should be ticked.
