Can't see DVD rom in My Computer

  hreece 17:07 19 Aug 2006

I recently installed an IPOD on my laptop and after installing the ITunes software, I received a message which said that the burning capability had not been installed, possibly due to other burning software on my computer. The message also gave instructions to reinstall the ITunes to correct the problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software, but after reinstallaiton, I could no longer see my D drive (DVD rom) in My Computer. When I look in the device manager, I can see the drive, but it has an exclamation point beside it. If I click on it, I get this message: "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device." (Code 41)

Can someone please help me. I'm hoping it's really something simple to fix.

No CD/DVD or CD-ROM access is missing error Code 19, Code 31, Code 32, Code 39, or Code 41
Try this if the optical drives are not appearing in My Computer or Device Manager.
(This is sometimes caused by the removal of Roxio or other writing software.)
Run regedit and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
Highlight it and in the right pane, find the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values.
Highlight each one in turn, right click and delete them.
Close regedit and restart the computer.
If in doubt make a restore point before making changes.
