can't play dvd

  Nonagon 16:00 06 Jan 2007

I have a Pioneer dvd-rw DVr-109. It stopped burning music cds properly ejecting the disc after 5-10 minutes of recorded material was burned. I tried sonic stage, windows media player and shareaza but the same result each time.
I was trying uninstalling and reinstalling the hardware, cleaning it with DVDs cleaning cd and reinstalling Nero, for a change, once I uninstalled the hardware it reinstalled itself but has no decoder
The message is” there is no W2k compatible decoder installed………….a DVD decoder device or software is required……….a DVD drive alone is not sufficient.
The computer could play DVD videos before.

Any ideas?

One thread is sufficient.

You need PowerDVD or similar or a hardware DVD decoder to play DVDs.
