Cant open .bmp files - potentially harmfull help!

Hi, i wonder if anyone can help. Whenever i recieve a .bmp file e.g. through MSN Messenger i get a message appearing saying cannot open (file name) potentially harmfull, but i can recieve .jpeg files and they open fine, i wonder if you can help me, from what i gather it is something to do with Security Centre looks at the symbol on the window which pops up...
IF anyone can offer any assistance that would be great thanks.

PNG files are lossless bitmaps. Unless you really need the highest possible quality, ask your friends to send JPG as they are generally much smaller. The only exception is Screenshots, or other images with few colours. Photos are much smaller even as highest quality JPG. Medium quality is adequate for holiday snapshots.
