Can't install any drivers on Vista

  jbam 20:26 08 Apr 2008

I've been trying to install drivers on to my vista laptop.

Have tried different ways to install printer drivers, but although vista seems to see the printer it will not load the drivers.

Spoken to an IT guy. He seems to think the registry is locked down.

Any one know of a fix for this?

Are you getting a warning as you try to install?

If you are running a software install as opposed to a simple driver install have you right clicked and selected "run as administrator"?

yes tried that

Are there any printer drivers in device manager?

Try a Startup repair.
Start up repair Vista with the Vista DVD.

Without the disc and If Startup Repair is a preinstalled recovery option on your computer.

Then expand the section "how do I use Startup Repair?"

What printer is it? if it is a very old printer you might have a problem.I expect you have tried this but if not Vista has drivers for most of the latest printers and if vista can see it try running the add new printer wizard.

HP laserjet 1020

8 months old

Tried add new printer wizard.

It seems to be all drivers not just printer drivers.
