Is main computer set as dhcp server?

  Fruit Bat /\0/\ 20:58 17 Feb 2005

Not sure

How do I check?

  easyrider 21:34 17 Feb 2005

Go to network connections right click your network adapter highlight internet protocol tcp/ip click on properties click advanced should tell you if if dhcp is enabled or disabled

  Fruit Bat /\0/\ 21:47 17 Feb 2005

Yes it is enabled

  Fruit Bat /\0/\ 22:05 17 Feb 2005

Got a bit further Internet connection sharing cannot be enabled

Error 172 RPC server is unavailable.

Any ideas?

May be a silly question from me, but why are you using NETBEUI over TCP/IP?

  FelixTCat 13:24 18 Feb 2005

Go to Contro Panel - Administrative Tools - Services. Scroll down to Remote Procedure Call and check the status. It should be Automatic.

  Fruit Bat /\0/\ 13:59 18 Feb 2005

added neteui after reading one of the links in this forum.

RPC is set to automatic

  FelixTCat 14:52 18 Feb 2005

Try the internet connection sharing wizard. That will set up your main computer as the DHCP server. Make the disk and use it on the second computer.

I agree with recap. Theres no reason ever to run NetBEUI with XP. NetBIOS - yeah but not BEUI.

TCP/IP or sometimes NetBIOS over TCP/IP is all that is needed, if you are having problems with the DHCP Server you can always run a network without it. click here
