I am trying to clear all data from my E drive so that I can use it as a back up using Acronis.
When I try to format it says "Windows cannot format this drive.

WHY NOT?

Ray, not shouting just getting exasperated.

had the same problem as you, someone else on here told me the following : try accessing in disk management.

My computer - right click select manage - storage - disk management.

right click the drive for options to initialise and format.

I tried that but then deleted the 2nd drive partition , after I did that the 2nd drive was ready to use.
Good luck

Just curious. You say that you are clearing data from your 'E drive' - isn't already formatted?

Les, not sure what you mean here, of course it is formatted, I wish to format back to a blank drive.

Apologies Ray, perhaps if I had read your post properly then I would have realised that you wished to clear all your data by reformatting the drive.I used to ( in the far and distant past ) use this method myself - from Dos.
