Cant decide on which 1 of 2 laptops, please help!

Hi once again, iv posted quite a few questions lately in preperation for buying a new laptop, all the answers iv received have been extremely helpful and i have really appreciated them all! Unfortunately due to my girlfriends fussiness over colour, size and weight issues none of the options iv had recommended really hit the spot so my two choices are from Pc world and are as follows:
1)Toshiba Equium u400-145, intel Pentium Dual core processor, 1.86ghz, vista home premium, 2gb memory, 160gb hard drive, 13.3" widescreen for £459, or..
2)Toshiba equium u400-146,intel core 2 duo T5750 Vista home premium, 3GB memory, 160gb hard drive, 13.3" widescreen for £557

Please can i have anyone's opinion on whether the 146 model is worth the extra pounds? My requirements are that the size is ideal, hard drive space isn't really that important as i have an external hard drive, ideally i'd like xp bit would 'put up' with Vista and i don't want to pay any more than £570ish!

Please let me know what you think and thankyou for your time.

The Core 2 Duo CPU is a lot more up to date than the Pentium, so is more powerful and has better power management features.

Whether it's worth the extra £98 depends on whether the extra power & battery life are important...

if it were me i would go for number 2 but you could also ditch the fussy girlfriend :o)

If it were me I wouldn't buy anything from PC World - my sister has had endless problems with her laptop and the after-sales service is rubbish.

Sorry Babou, just to even things up a bit I must say that I have nothing but praise for PC WORLD service ( Ipswich Branch) They have always resolved any problems with speed and helpful advice.

hi buel take note from Babou ,, i recently purchased toshiba equium L350 from pc world and ive had loads of probs with it and pc worlds help desk has been as much use as a fur coat in summer a rain coat yes but not fur coat,, anyway steer clear go for a Dell as ive use one for 3 years at work with not a single problem as have a lot of my colleagues.. i only went for the toshiba as it has a 17" screen and was on deal..

Thanks fellas, unfortunately iv had a few 'issues' with Dell in the past and as for Pc World, il sort them out...! Well i went to Pc World earlier and thankfully 'option 2' from my earlier post (Toshiba equium u400-146,intel core 2 duo T5750 processor) WAS £556 but the assistant told me that the items with a red spot/permanent marker mark on were being reduced tomorrow so im going back tomorrow!............however, i since noticed 2 other laptops that looked an even better spec, although i need your help- these were the 2 laptops:
1,£580 H.Packard dv4-1000em intel core 2 duo T7350(2.00ghz) 2GB Ram 250GB Hard drive 14" screen
2,£636 H.Packard dv-4-1100ea intel core 2 duo T5800, 3GB Ram, 250GB Hard drive(512mb dedicated)
How important is the 512mb dedicated?
Thankyou so much!

You must be one of the lucky ones, though they are better now than a few years ago. (im not far from PCW Ipswich)

Buel, the T7 will serve you just fine.

I take it you had no joy with Ebuyer then Buel, that machine i posted the link to in your other thread,is a really good find.

Thanks for your help skidzy, i realise i must be quite annoying, i cant help it, sorry for all the confusion!
Thankyou for your link, if i was buying i would go for your recommedation but my girlfriend is set on either of these 2:
1,£580 H.Packard dv4-1000em intel core 2 duo T7350(2.00ghz) 2GB Ram 250GB Hard drive 14" screen
2,£636 H.Packard dv-4-1100ea intel core 2 duo T5800, 3GB Ram, 250GB Hard drive(512mb dedicated)
How important is the '512mb dedicated' ram?
Thankyou for this and which one is the best in your opinion?

  skidzy 23:37 23 Dec 2008

512Mb is dedicated to the graphics leaving you with two and half GB for the system (thats plenty)

To be honest, there isnt a lot between the two and the prices reflect this.

Now if you were to do some heavy video editing or raw photo editing this may have a major bearing....but for general use....either will serve you just fine.

Hmmmmm...well i do burn quite a few dvds and currently using my gf's medion the 'encoding' takes ages, does this help you?
Ps- i bet you are going to be SO glad when i hurry up and buy this laptop eh?Ha Ha
