Can't connect Acer laptop to router

  pj1002 14:47 04 Aug 2009

I have broadband with Sky which is connected to a PC with ethernet cable. Over the past few months have had various laptops/mobiles connected to utilise the broadband. I now have an Acer laptop which will not connect even though the passkey has been entered (as with all the other laptops that have connected over the past couple of months). Do I need a wifi connection direct to the laptop even tho there's an internal connection? How do I resolve the problem - any advice greatly received.

Have you contacted SKY?
We had problems when setting up the wireless connection & SKY talked us through it & solved the problems we were having!

Acer laptop may have a switch for the wireless module. Are you sure it is on?

Do you detect any wireless signal (right click on wireless icon in system tray and select view available wireless networks.

Check that the wireless card is “Enable” from the Network Connection Area

Start – Setting - Network Connection - Right click-“Wireless Area Connection”- Enable

or Disable as required

If already “Enable” try “Disabling” and re “Enabling” the wireless card

Check these setting on the wireless card

Right click on Wireless Icon in the task bar

Click Status – General - Properties

Click Wireless Network Tab – In the “Preferred Network” display box highlight your

network name and click Properties

Tick “ Connect even if this network is not broadcasting”

Click Connection Tab – Tick “ Connect when this network is in range”

Click OK

At the top of display the type of Wireless Card will be displayed

Click Configure - Click-Advanced Tab

Check the following: -

‘Auto Connection Mode” is Enable

“Power Saving Mode” Set to Cam (Constantly Awake Mode)

Click - Power Management Tab (If Available)

Un Tick “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”
