For some reason when I Start/Progs/Accesories/System Tools/System Info I get a message 'Can't collect any information'.

did you restart the computer after changing the services start up types?

If you've exhaused all other avenues, this has a 50/50 chance of working :-

Go to the shortcut for System Information, right click it, then Properties, Shortcut Tab and in the Target box add the words (without quotes) "*/categories*+all*-loadedmodules" to the end of it. The asterisks represent spaces.

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe"/categories +all -loadedmodules"

You need a space before the /categ..........

Didn't see it first time.

No quotation mark at the end.
