Cant change background, Vista

Im having trouble trying to change my wallpaper on windows Vista, i can change the background colour but cant add a picture as a wall paper,

Any help or guidence please

Right click the appropriate picture and select <set as desktop background>

ive tried right clicking on picture and sat as desktop, for some reason it does nothing, ive also tried going through the control panel and setting desktop that way but still no joy??

It never does any harm to run a file check for corrupt files etc.
Click the start orb, type cmd.exe in the box and then right click the program cmd.exe and run as admin.
Type exactly sfc /SCANNOW and press enter.
Takes 30 to 45 minutes or so. See if it says at the end "windows found no file violations" or not.

Can't think of anything else to try.
