Can't burn to CD

I have a problem in that I cnnot 'burn' anything to CD-R or CD-RW. Everything is OK until the wizard starts when it tells me that there is no CD in the drive when there is. I've been told that Microsoft have introduced something in their updates which has put a block on this procedure apparently in an attempt to stop piracy etc., of their products. Any thoughts on this problem please.

So you are trying to copy a Microsoft CD-ROM?

If not, it could be that the laser has gone kaput - rewriters are not as robust or enjoy the same longevity as basic ROM drives.

You can buy a new CD rewriter for about £12 and, even better, a DVD version for very little more these days.

Hi Johnnyrocker
Yes it is a new problem and I've WndowsXP running.
Hi Stuarti
Thank you for that but as the comp is only 10 months old and I can play CDs as normal.I presume the laser does all things. So maybe thereis another place to look.
