Hi, I am trying to back up to my 1TB seagate drive and it gets to 27% done and then I get an error message saying
" The operation failed due to a device error encountered with either the source or the destination. If the source or destination volume is on a disk, run CHKDSK/R on the source or destination volume and then retry the operation.
Details : The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
What does all that mean?! Can anyone help please
Thanks

If the source or destination volume is on a disk, run CHKDSK/R on the source or destination volume and then retry the operation.

Errors on either internal or external drive you need to run disk checking tool on both.

CAn also come up if there is insufficent room on the internal disk to make temporay files for the backup. you need about 20% disk space to be free on the internal drive.

Sorry to be a bit dim but how do I run chkdsk on the expansion drive?

Start > Run, and type:

chkdsk X: /f

where X is the letter of the external drive

the /f means check disk will fix any error it finds.

I have tried that and when I click ok it just flashes a box on the screen for a split second (looks like a command prompt) and then nothing happens, not having a lot of luck am I!?
